Dr. Frida Polli is an award-winning Harvard and MIT neuroscientist turned CEO. Named one of Inc.’s Top 100 Female Founders and one of Entrepreneur’s Top 100 Powerful Women, Dr. Polli’s mission is to help everyone realize their true potential at work by removing bias from the talent matching process and improving job fit. She is the CEO and co-founder of pymetrics, a company leveraging behavioral science and AI to make workforce decisions more accurate, fair, and efficient. With global clients including BCG, Kraft Heinz and Workday, pymetrics has matched millions of people with their ideal jobs. 
Dr. Polli and pymetrics have been featured by CNN, BBC, CNBC, Bloomberg, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Economist, Fortune, Fast Company, and Forbes, among others. She regularly speaks at events like WEF’s Annual Meeting in Davos, NYT New Work Summit, Dreamforce, TechCrunch Disrupt, SXSW, and MIT EmTech Digital. Her scientific achievements include awards such as MIT 100K, Harvard Business School Life Science Award, and NARSAD Young Investigator Award, and publications in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Brain, and Journal of Neuroscience. Frida contributes to numerous AI governance organizations, including the IEEE group on AI governance, the WEF group on AI in HR, and the NY Academy of Sciences AI working group.
Dr. Polli lives in Manhattan with her husband and three girls. When not with her kids or working, she enjoys binging podcasts ranging from true crime to Pod Save America, and mentoring young women leaders.

Reducing Bias in Hiring

Bias is present in every step of the hiring process, often unconsciously. This poses significant ethical and even economical challenges for organizations and society at large, growing more urgent everyday. 

Bias in hiring is not a new challenge, but new solutions and strategies to help combat bias at every stage in the hiring process are emerging everyday. While most HR leaders are familiar with some of the human-focused solutions to combat bias like anti-bias training, technology and AI specifically can take it a step further to mitigate inherent human biases and evaluate more fairly at scale, allowing recruiting leaders to consider a broader pool of applicants while providing a consistent experience including:

  • How commonly used methods of screening and assessing candidates are disproportionately disadvantaging certain groups from the start
  • How unconscious bias comes into play and why anti-bias training for humans isn’t the solution 
  • How to measure bias in your hiring process and then implement technology and strategies to mitigate it across every step of the hiring process
  • Best practices for HR leaders using technology to reduce bias including: the type of data to include, consistent auditing, transparency, and vendor partnership
